Service Intervals


Servicing Your Machine

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Operating in extreme conditions may require more frequent service intervals:

• Engine components may become dirty or plugged when operating in extreme heat, dust or other severe conditions.

• Engine oil may lose efficiency if vehicle is operated constantly at slow or low engine speeds or with frequent short trips.


Please use the following timetables to perform routine maintenance on your machine.

Service Intervals

Break-In - After First 5 Hours

• Change engine oil and filter.

• Check and tighten drive wheel hardware to specification.

• Check and adjust park brake.

Break-In - After First 15 Hours

• Check mower belt tension.

Before Each Use

• Make sure all safety guards and shields are attached.

• Test safety interlock systems.

• Check engine oil level.

• Check hydraulic oil level.

• Check for hydraulic oil leaks.

• Inspect tires and check air pressure.

• Check operation of park brake.

• Check to make sure engine oil cooler fins are clean.

After Each Use

• Clean debris from air intake screen and engine cooler.

• Fill fuel tank.

• Check for loose, missing, or damaged parts.

Every 50 Hours or Yearly

• Grease front caster spindles.

• Grease mower deck lift support blocks.

• Grease pump idler pivot.

• Grease mower deck spindles.

• Grease mower deck push arms.

• Check belt tension.

• Clean battery and check battery fluid level.

• Check air cleaner elements, clean if needed.

• Clean engine shrouds if dirty.

• Clean behind engine shrouds and exposed fins.

• Check and tighten drive wheel hardware.

• Check roll-over protection system (ROPS) hardware for proper torque.

• Inspect tires and check air pressure.

• If operating in extremely dirty / dusty conditions: Remove screws on blower fan screen and clean behind it.

Every 100 Hours

• Clean and gap spark plugs.

• Clean behind engine shrouds and exposed fins.

• Change engine oil and filter.

Every 300 Hours

• Replace primary air cleaner element.

• Clean and lap valve seat surface. See your John Deere dealer.

• Adjust valve clearance. See your John Deere dealer.

• Clean combustion chamber. See your John Deere dealer.

Every 500 Hours

• Adjust park brake.

Every 1000 Hours

• Replace and gap spark plugs.

• Replace fuel filter, if not replaced within last year.

• Replace mower deck thrust arm bushings.

Yearly

• Change primary and secondary air cleaner elements (on Optional HD Air Cleaner) at least once per season.

• Change engine oil and filter at least once per season.

• Change hydraulic oil and filter at least once per season.

• Replace and gap spark plugs at least once per season.

• Replace fuel filter at least once per season.

• Clean engine cooling fins at least once per season.

• Inspect fuel lines.

As Needed

• Check tire pressure.

• Replace fuses, light bulbs, and battery.

• Check and adjust transmission neutral.

• Replace pump drive belt.

• Check and align control levers.

• Adjust control lever neutral start switches.

• Adjust park brake.

• Adjust tracking.

• Replace fuel lines.
