The TANGO E5 Series II is smarter than ever. The mower’s new driving performance takes it in a forward motion until it reaches the boundary wire, at which point it curves and changes course – even on hilly terrain.

The modern styling in combination with the functional design underlines the robust character of the mower. TANGO E5 Series II has been designed with consistancy, functionality and weight in mind.
The TANGO E5 Series II is strong and rigid, built using a solid, double walled chassis. The inner part of the body is sealed against the hood. All electronics are inside the double-wall body, protecting them against dirt, dust, moisture, and other outside interference. Solid acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) material is highly resistant to sunlight.
The strategically placed red stop button is on the top of the mower, easily visible and accessible. Pushing it will abort any operation immediately. On either sides of the button are decals which explain safe operation of the mower.

The main switch turns the mower on and off for transportation and storage purposes. It is located next to the carrying handle at the rear, facing down. The switch is not directly visible from the top. This prevents unintended activation of the mower by untrained people. A sensor in the handle locks the blade during transport. TANGO is PIN- protected and the screen locks automatically – perfect when children are around.
Boundary sensors, indicate the mower’s position in relation to the boundary wire.

Should the TANGO be inadvertently lifted during its operation, the sensor in the handle and the two front caster wheel sensors will detect this and shut the mower off immediately. The TANGO also features a built-in tilt sensor that instantly stops the mower whenever it is raised more than 36 percent.

Four boundary sensors indicate if the mower is operating within the area defined by the boundary wire. Outside of this area, the mower will neither drive nor spin the blade. After TANGO E5 Series II has been mowing a while and the battery loses charge, the mower automatically drives back to the charging station to recharge. The docking station doesn’t have to be on the lawn. As long as it’s within reach, it can go almost anywhere.The mower is charged via two metal plates in the charge station, touching two metal contacts at the front of the mower. The charge station receives the necessary 36-V electric power from a voltage converter connected to house electrics (AC 120 V/50 Hz or 230 V/60 Hz). The maximum charge time is 80 minutes.

With a fully-charged battery, TANGO E5 can operate for an average of 90 minutes. Note that the actual mowing time depends on cutting frequency, slopes, complexity of the garden, etc. A professional installation along with the machine's smart navigation features allows maximum mowing time per battery charge. To better protect the mower against theft, charging station and mower will be paired.

The charge station also provides power to the boundary wire around the garden which defines the mowing area as well as to the guide loop which aids the mower to align with the station when going for recharge. A green light-emitting diode (LED) on top of the charge station clearly indicates the status of those wires, allowing quick and easy diagnostics should the wire get broken.

To protect the charge station’s circuit board in freezing winter conditions, the solid charging station can easily be taken off the charge-station pad and stored, for example, in the basement. A cover encloses the connectors for the boundary wire during mowing season. When taking off the charge station in winter, this cover folds down to continue protecting the cables from weather impacts.
TANGO E5 uses a Li-ion battery for power supply. The battery delivers 98 Wh at 25 V - enough power for outstanding drive and cutting performance, even on inclines or in wet grass. Li-ion batteries provide high power at low weight keeping the mower light. There is nearly no memory effect so the battery capacity does not decrease over time. This along with the very low self-discharge rate, maximizes battery lifetime.
There is a big difference between traditional and autonomous mowing. The traditional method is to mow your grass lower than average and let it re grow before cutting it again. Autonomous mowing takes place continuously, maintaining the grass at the desired pre-set height throughout the week.

As per the short-grass-short principle, the mower can also operate in wet conditions as the short grass clippings do not clump and leave an unsightly finish. The autonomous mower will operate within boundaries defined by wires installed in the garden. It operates randomly on the lawn at given times. It detects obstacles and the boundary wire automatically and even adapts to patches of longer grass on the move. Whenever the battery power becomes low or scheduled time is over, the mower will return to its station to charge and idle until the next mowing sequence is scheduled.

Cutting every corner even of complex gardens

While the boundary wire defines the borders of the entire garden, it can also be used to create keep-out areas such as flower beds where the mower should not mow. To cut hidden corners of the garden, TANGO E5 Series II will drive to launch points along the boundary wire and start mowing from there. Up to five launch points can be adjusted.

Modifying the frequency starting from the various launch points, as well as the charge station, ensures even coverage of all garden sections. A cleanup lap around the entire garden boundary ensures all edges will be well-maintained. The frequency of this cleanup pass is adjustable.

Homing and automatic charging

Once the battery level gets low, TANGO E5 Series II will return home by traveling next to the boundary wire until finding the charge station. As the mower using different routes during its homing process, tracks will be avoided. Once reached, a guide wire in front of the charge station helps the mower to align with the charge station.
In addition to this home-finding along the boundary wire, the smart-homing feature is built-in. In the same way you may fuel a car when reaching a convenient fuel station shortly before reaching critical fuel level, TANGO will charge its battery when being next to the charge station before power goes low. This provides more time to mow instead of traveling and less tracks in the garden is your benefit.
The VCU is mounted inside the mower to ensure protection for the elements. The VCU connects all sensors, motors, and power harnesses and contains an accelerometer providing slope angles as well as the speaker for audible signals.
Sturdy and powerful brushless motors are used to power the drive wheels. The two identical motors power the rear wheels through an integrated planetary transmission.
The cutting height adjustment is done quickly and easily by simply turning the protection shield. The Blade and shield move simultaneously, another added safety feature of the TANGO. The height of cut ranges from 19mm to 102mm. The traditional method is to mow your grass lower than average and let it re grow before cutting it again. The blade is driven by a brushless motor which requires no maintenance. Well-protected from rain, grass, and impacts, the motor resides in the height-of-cut assembly, moving up and down with the blade when changing the height of cut. It offers a powerful 60 W at 2600 rpm.
TANGO’s tough blade makes short work of longer grass, so there is no need to pre-mow when the season starts, or after you’ve been away. The blade is so durable, it stays sharp right through the season – even in tough conditions. Should the blade hit a hard object and stop suddenly, the blade motor is protected from the impact by the blade mounting shim which allow the blade to stop immediately without causing any damage. The shape of the blade means only the sharp cutting edges are in contact with the grass, reducing noise and power requirements.
Our experience shows that in many applications, one single blade can be used an entire season; whilst other autonomous mowers in the market would require blade change frequently.

On the left part of the user interface, there are buttons for quick access to the main operations: mow on schedule, mow now, and go home. The right section of the user interface is reserved for the buttons to program the mowing hours and change further settings. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) clearly signal current operation mode and potential faults.

It is ideal for areas of up to 2,200 square meters. Objects or sections of the garden, such as flower beds, can be excluded using the limiting wire. Using a wire sensor, the TANGO E5 simply avoids them by automatically going around any obstacles outside of its limits ('excluded obstacles'). The mowable area depends on the complexity of the garden-layout. The more complex the garden (lots of exclusions, steep inclines and fragmented yard layouts), the higher the energy consumption. Your local John Deere Dealer will be at your side with advice and assistance during the setup.
In principle, the TANGO E5 can be used for any type of garden. Under certain circumstances, the equipment must be adapted slightly to the garden. Of course, the product specifications, such as the maximum possible incline and the minimum width of the mowing path, must be observed. To do this, please observe the information in the operating instructions or contact your local John Deere Dealer directly.
This John Deere automatic mower fully charges itself in 80 minutes and, depending on the complexity of the mowing program, can then be used for up to 90 minutes of work.
This John Deere automatic mower can also mow in the rain without any problems. However, we recommend that you do not use the TANGO E5 in stormy weather and protect it from possible lightning strikes. You can interrupt the mowing by pressing the stop button and instantly resume mowing once the weather improves.
The minimum width (from edge to edge) is 150cm. This ensures that the mower can reach the areas on both sides of the passage-way. Your local John Deere Dealer will be happy to assist you with programming the mowing program.
If the areas are connected by a level path and the cable is laid accordingly, the TANGO E5 will move to the second area as programmed. If there is no path between the two work areas, it is recommended that you create a secondary area (also 'bordered' by a sensor-cable). In such a scenario, the TANGO E5 unit will have to be manually carried from the main area to the secondary area.
The TANGO E5 automatically returns to its charging station when the batteries are mostly drained. It will charge itself to 100% before continuing the pre-programmed mowing program.
The TANGO E5 can handle inclines inside the work area of up to 35 % (this means a height difference of 35cm over 1 meter). Along the limiting cable (the edge of the mowing area), the maximum permitted incline is 10%. This prevents the mower from slipping over the limiting cable when it reaches the edge of the lawn (for example if the grass is wet).
Maintaining additional mowing areas is not a problem. If they are connected by a path, the TANGO E5 will move back and forth independently, corresponding to the program.
Assuming that the limiting cable has been correctly laid around flower beds, trees, shrubs or other objects, the TANGO E5 will not enter those areas and thus will not damage flowers, trees, shrubs, etc. Your local John Deere Dealer will be happy to assist you with installing the limiting cable.
Firstly, the rule is that no people or animals should linger in the mowing area unsupervised. The TANGO E5 always carries out its mowing tasks as per the programming, thus allowing you to enjoy your leisure time instead of mowing.
The cuttings made by TANGO E5 are approximately the length of a small grain of rice. The cut grass remains in the small spaces between the mowed areas, acting as a natural fertilizer without causing unsightly piles of grass. The grass on the mowed area looks healthier and greener.
This John Deere automatic lawnmower can be safely stored in a cellar or a frost-free garage. It takes up considerably less space than a comparable manual walk-behind lawnmower. Your local John Deere Dealer will be happy to give you some recommendations for winter servicing.

The TANGO E5 is protected by means of a PIN code, which renders it useless to thieves.
Switch the mower off and turn the TANGO E5 over so that you can see the saucer-shaped blade cap. This can be rotated slightly in order to move the blades upwards or downwards.
