JOHN DEERE FORESTRY LAUNCHES REDESIGNED CABIN, CH9-HARVESTER BOOM AND OTHER RELIABILITY AND PRODUCTIVITY-ENHANCING FEATURES
The rotating and levelling cabin for the E-series machines that was launched in 2008 took the level of comfort and productivity of John Deere forestry machines into a league of their own. The cabin automatically follows boom movements and provides the operator with the best ever visibility of the working area, while automatic levelling ensures that the operator can sit in an upright position even when working on slopes or on uneven terrain.
Serial production of the redesigned cabin starts in the spring
The rotating and levelling cabin of E-series machines has been significantly updated and many of these enhancements are based on requests from customers. The cradle mountings connecting the cabin to the frame have been redesigned providing extra leg room. The two-dimensional cabin pillars improve the manufacturing quality of the frame structure. The upper part of the front window is slightly wider, which further improves the visibility to treetops.
In terms of interior materials for the cabin, special attention has been paid to ease of cleaning: the pillars inside the cabin have been clad with a leather-like material, which is easier to keep clean and tidy than the textile material used previously. The location of the heater control panel is more convenient and the natural rubber wiper blades have been replaced with more durable neoprene blades.
Other characteristic features of the new cabin include more robust outer door handles, a metal cover for the door handle and a water groove on the door frame, which directs rain water away from the cabin and prevents snow from getting into the cabin when opening the door. Serial production of the new rotating and levelling cabin will start in the spring of 2015.
New, robust CH9 boom
The CH9 harvester boom designed for the John Deere’s largest harvester model 1470E has plenty of power even at maximum reach. The capacity of the CH9 boom is substantially boosted from the earlier CH8 boom model. The lifting torque has been increased to 225 kNm (+15 kNm), lifting capacity is now 1700 kg (+150 kg) and the slewing torque is 59 kNm (+4 kNm).
The new CH9 boom has a sleeker profile and the slewing cylinders are mounted parallel with the harvester’s frame to improve visibility. There are now four cylinders instead of the eight on the previous model. The subtle layout of cables and hoses and the new location of the valve assembly also enhance visibility from the cabin. The CH9 boom is designed specifically to work seamlessly together with the new H415 harvester head.
H270 Series II harvester head
John Deere harvester heads are renowned for their productivity, reliability and accuracy of measurement. Harvester heads equipped with two feed rollers are suitable for crooked stems and this makes the H200 series harvester heads particularly good for harvesting hardwood.
The John Deere H270 Series II is a robust and capable harvester head for final felling. The
H270 Series II has long delimbing knives, and a wide opening.
New boom extension with hidden hoses
The boom extension with hidden hoses, where hydraulic hoses are installed inside the boom, is available for the CF5, CF7 and CF7S loaders with a 10 meter reach. This option extends the life span of the hydraulic hoses in particular when working with trunks with lots of branches. The new extension with hidden hoses includes a rotator link with active braking to suppress swaying of the grapple. Intelligent boom control (IBC) is also available for the extension with hidden hoses.
Powerful HPC15 computer
John Deere’s HPC computer has been developed further to meet the increased demands of today’s forestry operations. The new HPC15 has an Intel Core i7 processor, 32 GB SSD hard disk, 4 GB RAM and Windows 7 operating system boosting the operation of TimberMatic H-12 and F-12 control systems and other forestry applications. The more robust structure of the HPC15 enhances its durability. The new powerful PC meets the high demands of forest machinery now and in the future.
