The R4040i comes with powerful 6.8L PowerTech™ PSS engine. The engine feeds the power hydraulic system to set the torque for four-wheel drive. The mid cab design creates the base for an optimum transport position. The operator is seated behind the front axle which minimizes bouncing in the field or on the road.
To stay in touch, the GreenStar™ 3 (GS3) 2630 display and Modular Telematics Gateway (MTG) can be connected to JDLink™ for Remote Display Access.
XtraFlex wheel suspension absorbs movements independently at each wheel to keep the best contact to the road or field limiting the movements being transferred into the sprayer mainframe. The spray booms being cradled near the front side support holds the boom gently but firmly in position and the rolls allow lateral movements limiting boom wear. Side-folded booms are positioned just above the wheels, keeping the center of gravity low. The low boom transport position makes driving along trees less vulnerable and offers the operator a clear view.

The optional trailer hitch connection enables operators to haul additional spray productivity on the go. The optional trailer hitch is equipped with a dual air-brake system to safely haul the trailer across the farm to field distance. Disconnect trailer at the field to eliminate the need to drive with an oversized tank into the field to keep the machine at high productivity.
An optional large storage box allows operators to take additional product into the field. Optional filling hose enables to fill the sprayer at various filling points to reduce the logistic time between farm and field. All crop protection material is safely stored behind the lockable door allowing safe storage of different types of packages.

Boom stability solutions enable performance, uptime, and reduce cost of operation. The pendulum construction with the anti-yaw dampening system will balance the spray boom when spraying. For hilly conditions, an optional spring set is available to allow the pendulum to better follow the contours from the field.
R4040i offers various spray boom configurations to best match farm value stream requirements. The boom folding sections are fully electrohydraulically operated with the hydro handle using multi-functional control in the cab.
Boom folding is typically smooth, due to the ball- and socket-bearings in the hinge points and the end-stroke dampening in the folding cylinders between the boom segments. Using the auto fast fold setting, the boom unlocks the transport lock automatically and unfolds the boom completely.
The spray boom also can be unfolded at sequential mode; first inner boom segments follow the outer boom segments, which enables working at one-half the width. In the occurrence the spray boom is unfolded and an obstacle is in the field (for example, electric pole of the power grid line), the R4040i offers the possibility to reduce the working width asymmetrical using the multi-functional lever. By pushing the button, selected boom segment will fold in and boom locks automatically prevent the boom tends to on side due to reduced working width.

The XtraFlex independent wheel suspension system at R4040i is designed for optimum road and field performance. The system offers four-wheel steering and hydraulic tread width adjustment to best match different field and crop conditions. Under frame crop clearance of the R4040i is minimum 1.0 m (39 in.) allowing for nearly a full-season use in most crops. Standard wheel motor covers and optional belly shields allow for a smooth flow of crop under the machine in tall crop settings.
XtraFlex individual dual-strut, air-spring suspension system offers flexibility in daily spray operation:
The XtraFlex automatic air-spring leveling system maintains ride height, ensuring 10 cm (4 in.) of travel up and down at all times for 20 cm (8 in.) of total travel. Once the machine is running, the on-board air compressor automatically inflates the bags to the optimal set ride height. To lower the machine, a switch located near the SolutionCommand deflates all four bags at once if needed.
The four-wheel steering system with a turning radius* 5,6 m (18.4 ft) or 5,8 m (19 ft) makes maneuvering easy. The steering system allows easy field access limiting crop damage and providing flexibility in daily operations.

The XtraFlex suspension systems with optional hydraulic tread adjust moves wheel spacing in or out without leaving the cab. For ease of use, the control switch is integrated into the CommandARM™. The desired track width can be programmed using the GS3 2630 Display. Once the system is actuated, the hydraulic cylinders, mounted on the inside of the axle, move the wheels in or out.

The overall diameter is approximately 50 cm (20 in.) to handle a large number of different packages. Nozzles inside the hopper help prevent the powder and granulate to clag at the inside, and the stainless-steel sieve prevents clogging of the injector line. A spray gun is standard equipment to help dissolve when needed.
