Service Steering & Brakes


Removing Front Wheel

1. Park the machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

2. Remove lock nut (A), one side.

3. Remove threaded Axle (B).

4. Inspect roller bearings (C), both sides, for excessive wear, nicks, burrs, etc. Replace if necessary.

NOTE: Overtightening of front wheel bolt may result in bearing damage.

5. Install threaded axle (B) and tighten lock nuts torque to 33 N•m (24 lb-ft.), both sides.

Adjusting Steering Chain

1. Park the machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

2. Remove steering wheel, by first prying off the John Deere emblem (A).

3. Unscrew the nut from the steering column and pull steering wheel up and off of the column.

4. Remove two screws (B) and tilt the dash forward.

5. Tighten nut (C) so spring (D) is collapsed, then back out the hex nut 3 flats, this keeps the steering tight.

6. Reverse assembly from above and tighten steering column nut to 33 N•m (24 lb-ft.).
