Gleneagles greenkeepers Laura Campbell & Chris Richmond will be enjoying a greenkeeping trip of a lifetime to the 100th anniversary PGA Championship in the US.

Two greenkeepers from Gleneagles, the iconic Scottish hotel and sporting estate, have been handed the chance of a lifetime in the USA as part of the team preparing the golf course for this week’s closing Major of 2018, The PGA Championship.

Laura Campbell (27), a senior greenkeeper at the Perthshire estate, and Chris Richmond (20), an apprentice greenkeeper, have travelled to Bellerive Country Club, St Louis, Missouri, on an educational experience that will see them work within the golf course maintenance team.

The trip, sponsored by John Deere, who exclusively supply Gleneagles with golf course maintenance equipment, is one of a number of training and development initiatives being created following the exclusive supplier relationship which started in 2017.

Scott Fenwick, Director of Agronomy at Gleneagles, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Laura and Chris and we thank our supplier, John Deere, for sponsoring their trip to America. Learnings gained from being part of a large championship team preparing and maintaining the golf course for a Major tournament is something very special.

“Their experience in the USA will undoubtedly support the development of their careers here at Gleneagles and add significant value to our team as we prepare to host the biggest women’s team event in golf, The Solheim Cup, next year.”

Gleneagles currently employs a 55-strong greenkeeping and gardening team, including seven apprentices, to manage its four golf courses, The PGA Centenary, the Top 100-ranked King’s and Queen’s, along with the 9-hole PGA National Academy Par 3.
