What’s the best time to water?

The bad news is that it has nothing to do with when it’s convenient for you. The good news is that when you water at the right time, it has a profound impact on the health of your lawn.

Grab a cup of coffee – the best time to water your lawn is early in the morning, before 10:00. There are some straightforward reasons for this. The lower temperatures and calmer breezes in the morning slow down evapora- tion so that the water can soak into the ground and be absorbed by the root system. That also works to keep the turf cooler during the hotter times of the day.

You definitely don’t want to water in the evening, because too little water will evaporate and your turf will remain wet overnight, making it a perfect breeding ground for fungi – you don’t want those!
