Your Cost of Ownership is an estimate of the cost of owning a tractor over a set period of time. It includes the cost of fuel, maintenance and repairs as well as tractor depreciation.
In the following paragraphs you can see how John Deere is helping you predict these costs with greater accuracy and making financial planning easier. There is also a calculator to enable you to estimate your tractor’s future value.
Our promise is straightforward: Guaranteed fuel economy. Or you money back2.
Thanks to JDLink you can get accurate information on fuel consumption and running costs. This technology does also allow our dealers to advise you on how to manage your machines better.
Our research shows that fuel is the single biggest running cost - typically up to half the total cost of owning a tractor over 4 years.
Choosing a fuel efficient tractor is the first step to cutting your fuel costs. Engine specification can be deceiving. What matters is how efficiently power is delivered to the ground and the PTO. John Deere designs and manufactures many of the drivetrain components. It means we are able to ensure that individual components work together in harmony, minimising power losses and maximising fuel efficiency.
The 7R delivers up to 95% overall efficiency
DLG Powermixtest Nr.: 2014-0437; 10.2014; www.dlg-test.de
The DLG is an independent organisation which has been testing farm machinery from more than 50 years. Their PowerMix test measures the specific fuel consumption under fourteen different workload scenarios including PTO, hydraulic and transport modes.
* Internal calculation made by John Deere in 2018 based on the DLG Powermix test. Competitors average calculated as average of g/kWh in DLG Powermix test (4 0k) results. Average value multiplied by power yielded by the respective JD model in the DLG Powermix (4 0k) test. Assumptions: diesel cost =1 € /l, DEF cost=0,7 € /l, Diesel density=0,8247 g/ml, DEF density= 1,09 g/ml. Only F T4 tractors considered for the competitors average. 6215R vs Fendt 720, Case IH Puma 24 0, and New Holland T 7.230. 7 310R vs Fendt 939, Case IH Optum 300 and NH T 7.315 HD. 84 00R vs Fendt 939 and Case IH Magnum 380; http://www.dlg.org/traktoren.html
You don’t have to take our word to know what your fuel consumption is, neither do you have to keep any records yourself. Any tractor equipped with JDLink remote monitoring provides data for fuel consumption, engine load utilisation, idle time and more.
To monitor your fuel consumption set up an account at the Operations Center, myjohndeere.com or you can use the mobile app on your smartphone. Now you can work with your dealer if you wish to identify opportunities for improving fuel efficiency.
Check tyre pressures regularly
Various studies have shown that fuel consumption can be up to 15% more if the wrong tire pressure is set up. For transport, tires manufacturers advise to add 0.4 bar to reduce rolling resistance and at the same time fuel consumption.
Use satellite navigation
Get to the right field every time. You’ll save on unnecessary detours, wasted fuel and you’ll get the job done faster.
Optimise your ballast
Did you know that every unnecessary ton of ballast increases fuel consumption by 1 l/h? Check your tractor balance weights and make sure you’re not carrying too much.
Rapid acceleration and braking wastes fuel. Keep to a steady speed if you can and try and anticipate any obstacles or hazards to avoid sudden changes.
The fuel guarantee programme is valid and offered only by participating John Deere dealers from 1st November 2018 until 31st October 2019 for all new, never retail sold 6R (6 cylinder), 7R and 8R Series tractors purchased or leased between these dates and requires an explicit online enrolment. The guarantee programme is valid for field applications and for transport applications (above 20 kph) in accordance with the provided JDLink data.
The incentive applies for the first year of ownership. John Deere will refund the difference between the average fuel consumption in transport mode and the target fuel consumption. If the consumption is above the target, the refund will be based on the number of extra litres of fuel used. If it is under the target the refund will be based on 2 x the number of litres of fuel saved. The bonus is limited to a maximum of 10,000 €.
Enrolment to the program is not compulsory, but must be completed on the same day as the tractor is delivered to you. In parallel, your dealer may offer you a FarmSight dealer service package including when and how he will support you in using correctly your tractor2 with JDLink.
Always keep moving.
The Uptime Guarantee is a comprehensive package designed to keep you working whatever happens:
Customer surveys consistently show that machine reliability and uptime solutions are the most important topics for any farming business. Regular maintenance is essential to maintain tractor reliability, optimum fuel efficiency and uptime.
Independent studies show that John Deere tractors are highly cost efficient with low maintenance and repair costs.
Depreciation is the second biggest cost of owning a tractor. It’s important to understand what the expected resale value of your tractor is in 3 or 4 years’ time as this can have a big impact on your cost of ownership.
A higher purchase price does not always mean a higher cost of ownership. This is because some brands of tractor maintain their value better and have higher resale value so the cost of depreciation is lower.
Average web resale prices1 of competitor brands show an average of 12£/h depreciation.
Average web resale prices1 show that John Deere 200hp tractors hold their value better than other brands. Depreciation is approximately 2£/h lower.
